Itinerary Rainbow Mountain Full Day Tour
This incredible adventure begins very early in the morning. We will pick you up at your hotel in the historic center of Cusco at 4:30 am and we will start a journey towards the south of the city; It will be a 2-hour journey until we reach Cusipata, here we will have a hot breakfast and from there we will continue the journey along a carriage trail to the town of Chilihuani for 1 more hour.
The town of Chilihuani is located at 4,626 meters above sea level (15,177.17ft) and it is from there that we begin the walk that will take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes bordering a beautiful stream. Let yourself be captivated by the path and by its fauna, you will see groups of herds of Andean camelids such as llamas and alpacas; Ready your camera! The great snow peak that you will see is the highest in the region, the “Apu Ausangate”, its majesty and mystique will remind you that you are in a unique and magical place. During the journey, you will be able to interact with the community members of the area, learning a little about their daily lives; You will see various fields of cultivation that are worked in the area, especially potatoes and their different varieties.
After the 1 hour and 30min. walk, which is a 4km climb, you will be surprised by the wonderful view of Vinicunca, The Rainbow Mountain (5,020 masl / 16466ft). Take out your camera to record this moment! You will have enough time to explore the area, take photos and also take a breather to renew your energy (approximately 30 minutes at the top).
When it is time to begin the descent along the same ascent route, the return walk will take approximately 1 hour until you reach the place where the return transport will be waiting for you.
After 1 hour of travel, we arrive at Cusipata for lunch (buffet). Later, we will continue the return to Cusco, arriving after approximately 2 hours. You will be back to Cusco at the end of the afternoon.
